FAQ's
What are green working practices?
Green working practices are ways of working which will have no or limited lasting impact on the environment. Green Film Practices believes that in order to ensure a profitable future film industry, we need to make sure we manage our resources in a responsible fashion. We believe that there is no one right answer, but that green working practices have to be an integrated component of any sustainable policy. Green working practices can include recycling, less energy consumption, and participation in carbon emission offset schemes. We also advocate the exploration and use of innovative technology.
I am not filming in London, will you still be able to help me and know enough about my region?
Yes. Green Film Practices offer green solutions to all European productions and will ensure that we offer up-to-date information about your location and suited to your circumstances. Our production consultants will have had experience working in your region or we will seek additional local advice before we make any assessments or recommendations to your production. Specifically, we will research local recycling options and green service providers in your area.
My production has received soft money or a tax break benefit, yet we are not part of the Green Film Label scheme. How can we join?
If you are not partaking in the Green Film Label scheme, it is because your funding body or tax scheme administrator has not signed up. Please inform them that you wish for them to join and let us know too! Asking your funders to be part of the Green Film Label scheme is your first step in TAKING ACTION!
I have not received any soft money production support, can my production still participate in the Green Film Label Scheme?
Yes. However, you will be liable for the cost of participating in the scheme, and the Label cannot be awarded if you have not paid for the cost of both the assessment and the recommended steps of implementation.
How can I be sure that following the Green Film Label recommendations will not infringe on any union or trade organisation rules?
Green Film Practices make every reasonable effort to ensure that our recommendations do not infringe on any union or trade organisation rule. Should we discover that we have inadvertently stepped on any union rule, we will adjust our targets and recommendations accordingly. We believe the unions and trade organistations are just as interested in a sustainable future as the rest of us, and that we can only achieve this goal by working together.
How do you choose the companies and charities, such as Trees for Cities, that you recommend?
Green Film Practices have the highest standard when selecting partners to recommend. We perform an inhouse audit of the company or charity to ensure that it complies with our guidelines for environmentally-friendly practices. In recommending any carbon emission offset scheme, we will prioritise those who work locally, and we are more inclined to recommend that a production directly support a local project based on our subscription to the idea "think globally, act locally."
How can I be sure that you will treat my production information confidentially?
All Green Film Practices staff, trustees, and freelance contractors are bound by the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 and work to the highest standards to protect your privacy. We are happy to send you a copy of our Data Protection Policy upon request. In addition, we will sign a non-disclosure agreement once you sign up to the Green Film Label scheme under which we pledge to treat all sensitive production information confidentially.
Do you offer legal advice?
Although Green Film Practices will inform on environmentally-oriented legislation and changes to the law and government policies, under no circumstance should our information be construed as legal advice. For specific legal questions we recommend you take the advice of a lawyer.
